Associate Professor(CS Wind Chaired Professor) / Operations Management

Professor Introduction

Song-Hee Kim is an Associate Professor in the Division of Operations Management at SNU Business School, Seoul National University. Her research combines data-driven and behavioral approaches to understand and improve operational decision-making in healthcare and service systems. Over the past fifteen years she has conducted collaborative research using patient flow and healthcare operational data with leading hospitals and health systems in Korea and the United States, including Samsung Medical Center, Yonsei Severance Hospital, Korea University Medical Center, the National Emergency Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, Yale New Haven Hospital, and Keck Hospital of USC.

Her work has been published in leading journals, including Management Science, Operations Research, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, and Organization Science. She has also written for Harvard Business Review on digital transformation and hospital operations. Her honors include the Best OM Paper in Management Science Award, finalist recognitions for the INFORMS Pierskalla Award and the M&SOM Best Paper Award, and first prize in the MSOM Student Paper Competition. She was selected for the SNU Creative-Pioneering Researchers Program in 2022 and, in 2026, for the SNU Special Research Year program, awarded to three full-time faculty members across the university.

She currently serves as a Senior Editor for Production and Operations Management and as an Associate Editor for Management Science, Operations Research, and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management. In recognition of her editorial service she received the MSOM Society Best Associate Editor in Management Science Award in 2025 and the Production and Operations Management Best Senior Editor Award in 2026.

At Seoul National University, she teaches operations management, management science, business analytics, and data-driven decision-making across the undergraduate, graduate, MBA, Executive MBA, and Advanced Management Program (AMP), among other programs. Before joining Seoul National University, she was an Assistant Professor at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California, for six years, and she was a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Business School in 2024-2025. She received her B.S. in Operations Research from Cornell University and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Operations Research from Columbia University. After completing her Ph.D., she was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Yale School of Management.
